Professional Driving Lessons Across North Wales

Thank you so much for choosing me to help you on your journey to learning to drive. It’s a big step you’re taking—not just financially, but in terms of the time, effort, and the determination it takes to learn a new set of skills like this. You’ve made that all-important first move, and now you’re ready to start your lessons.
Learning to drive should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience, and I’ll do everything I can to help you achieve your goal of becoming a confident, independent driver. Of course, there’ll be moments when you feel frustrated or make mistakes—that’s totally normal and just part of the process. The key is to stick with it, keep practising, and reflect on what you’ve learned. With the right mindset, you’ll get there!
Having been a teacher for over 16 years, I understand that everyone learns differently. I’ll use a variety of methods to help you pick up the skills as quickly and smoothly as possible. Whether you prefer visual explanations, demonstrations, or just getting stuck in and having a go, let me know what works best for you. If you have any specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia or dyspraxia, sharing that with me will allow me to tailor lessons to suit your needs with simple, effective techniques.
— Richard Hockin
Richard spent over 16 years as a qualified teacher before becoming a driving instructor — meaning he genuinely understands how people learn new skills. Combined with his career as a police officer, where he received advanced driving training, he brings a rare combination of professional expertise to every lesson.
As a family man, Richard puts safety and professionalism at the heart of everything he does. All lessons take place in a dual-controlled, fully insured vehicle, and Richard holds an Enhanced DBS check for your peace of mind.

Everyone learns at their own pace. On average, most learners need 40-50 hours of professional instruction, but this varies depending on individual progress and confidence.
Yes, I can pick you up and drop you off at your home or another convenient location within the coverage area.
Bring your provisional driving licence and wear comfortable footwear that won't easily slip off — no flip flops or sliders. I'll take care of the rest!
Yes, you can use my dual-control car for your driving test. This helps as you'll be familiar with the vehicle.
Unfortunately not. This is something I'm sometimes asked, but it wouldn't be fair for me to agree to it. As an Approved Driving Instructor, my pass rate is monitored by the DVSA. If a test taken in my car results in a failure — particularly from someone I haven't taught — it counts against my record. A pattern of failures can trigger a standards check, which puts my licence to teach at risk.
If you've learned with another instructor and want to use a familiar car for your test, the best person to ask is your own instructor. If you'd like to take lessons with me ahead of your test date, I'm happy to discuss what's possible — just get in touch.
Your safety and your chances of passing are always the priority. If we get close to your test date and I don't feel you're ready, I'll be honest with you about it — and I'll strongly encourage you to swap your test to a later date rather than go in underprepared.
A first-time pass is always the goal. Sitting a test before you're ready risks a fail, the cost of rebooking and the knock to your confidence. Moving the date back by a few weeks to get more practice is almost always the better option. I'll help you rebook and we'll use the extra time well.
I require at least 48 hours notice for cancellations. This allows me to offer the slot to another student.
Yes, I can provide guidance and recommend resources to help you prepare for your theory test.
Yes, I'm a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) with comprehensive insurance. I'm also Enhanced DBS checked for your peace of mind.
